Emergency Response
Rehabilitation/Upgrading and Quick Fix of Water Sources in Gedo and Lower Juba Regions. Febraury 2025
Project Overview
REHABILITATION/UPGRADING AND QUICK FIX OF WATER SOURCES IN GEDO AND LOWER JUBA REGIONS.
The project is funded by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), supported by UNICEF, and implemented by the Jubaland Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, aims to address critical water access challenges in regions where vulnerable populations depend on shallow groundwater amidst inadequate urban water infrastructure.
The initiative's primary goal is to ensure sustainable and equitable access to safe drinking water, improve public health outcomes, and enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities.
In collaboration with UNICEF, the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources plans to rehabilitate 35 water schemes in the Gedo and Lower Juba Regions, particularly within Elwak and Kismayo Districts, to improve access to clean and safe water services. Access to clean water is vital for the health and well-being of communities, especially in areas like Elwak and Northern Kismayo, where several motorized shallow wells currently supply water to the local population.
