Kobciye project

Project Overview

The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Jubaland is Implementing Kobciye Project Funded by the World Food Programme (WFP).

The Ministry and WFP are committed to addressing the challenges faced by pastoralists and farmers residing in the State of Jubaland in Somalia. These challenges include cross-border conflicts and recurrent droughts and to address these issues, WFP intends to allocate a portion of its donor funds to support the Kobciye project, which aims to assist smallholder farmers in the aforementioned regions. The primary goal of this project is to enhance food security and nutrition among smallholder farmers by strengthening their resilience to shocks. This will be achieved through conducting a technical feasibility study on water source development for agricultural production in Jubaland while similar activity is going on in the other states of Puntland,  and Galmudug water for human use in Somalia.
